Don’t see your question? Call us at 941-202-1900 and our team will help.

A nurse practitioner is a licensed clinician with graduate-level training who can examine patients, diagnose conditions, and provide treatment. Family nurse practitioners are certified to care for patients of all ages.

Gabriel’s retina experience goes well beyond that training. He practiced as an ophthalmologist and retinal surgeon in Venezuela for 11 years before earning his nurse practitioner degree in the United States. At Venice Retina he works alongside Dr. Anita Shane and the practice’s physician team.

Gabriel performed vitreoretinal surgery in Venezuela for 11 years, then worked beside Dr. Thomas Shane in the retinal operating room in the United States. That experience gives him a surgeon’s understanding of the retina.

For patients, that shows up in clear explanations. Gabriel can describe what a scan shows, what an operation involves, and what recovery looks like, in English or Spanish.

Yes. Gabriel is a native Spanish speaker and can talk through your exam, diagnosis, and treatment plan in Spanish. When you call to schedule, let our team know you would like to see Gabriel and prefer Spanish.

Dilation blurs vision for several hours. Most patients are comfortable driving after dilation. We welcome you to bring a driver if you have any concern.

The whole process of seeing Dr. Shane was well organized. I waited less than 15 minutes to be seen. I was seen by a technician for testing, and yet more tests with Gabriel. Dr. Shane was very personable and listened to my concerns . She was able to point me in the right direction to solve my eye issues.

Update: Recently had a small eye emergency, and Dr. Shane was once again extremely accommodating and taking care of me right away. I also had the pleasure of meeting Gabriel Dib, FNP Who was outstanding professional thorough and just a wonderful clinician. This office still remains amazing and if you’re coming to Shane Retina, you’re coming to the right place! When you think something may be wrong with your eye, every visit to the doctor is an emergency. When I called Dr. Shane‘s office they were so accommodating and getting me an appointment right away in one of their office locations. Both Dr. Anita Shane and Dr. Thomas Shane Came highly recommended to me Not only by another local ophthalmologist, but also by one of the world renowned ophthalmologist that I met years ago. Karina greeted me professionally and I had filled out the patient medical history online, which is what I suggest you do, and then I gave her my insurance cards, photo ID and sat down, getting ready to open my laptop and have a long wait. However, Mike came to get me right away and took me right in, and he also was very professional. After all the preliminary exam and eyedrops were done. I was taken to the exam room and less than five minutes later Dr. Shane came in. All I can say is that she is as amazing as they say she is. She was very professional and very thorough and explained everything to me in detail. Thank goodness everything was fine and I was reassured. This is a great practice. Do not hesitate to pick up the phone and call.

This is an amazing group of people not only knowledgeable, but informative I went to them after having gone to another retina specialist The first place I went, did not give me the information. I was unsure about my circumstance, and I was not at all comfortable with what I was being told. I had the most complete check up imaginable with Venice Retina. I did not mention my first experience until after the appointment, but Dr. Dib Looked through every corner of my eyes and assured me everything was fine and then for extra reassurance, Dr. Shane came in and explain things in even more detail. I recommend this place to anybody that is interested and knows the difference between people that care and people just doing their job because these people actually care and the assistant Michael was also very informative and helpful
